教授あいさつ

2021年4月1日付で、健康行動疫学分野教授を拝命した中谷直樹（なかやなおき）です。疫学・公衆衛生学、特に精神保健（メンタルヘルス）に興味をもち、本学の博士前期・後期課程（障害科学専攻）では、行動医学及び疫学・公衆衛生学について学びました。

私は、これまで疫学的手法を用いて研究を実践し、その重要性は多くの研究の中で生かされてきました。中でも印象に残っているのは、研究者として駆け出しのころに携わった「がんになりやすい性格（タイプCパーソナリティ）が存在するのか」についての大規模コホート研究です。検討の結果「パーソナリティと発がん・がん予後は関係しない」という結論に至りました。さらに、がん患者さんは臨床的な状態もあり、抑うつ症状等を有することが多いという着想から、「先行研究で示されていた心理的要因と発がん・がん予後の関係は因果関係が逆転していた」という知見を示すことができました。この結果の解釈にあたり疫学的視点は「真の関連」を理解することに重要な役割を果たしました。本分野名を健康行動疫学とした理由は、この疫学的視点を重視した研究を実践すること意味しています。

東北メディカル・メガバンク機構では、地域住民コホート調査の管理・運営、質の高いデータの収集から、被災地の医療復興のみならずわが国の未来型医療の推進のために貢献したいと考えています。特に、「健康増進のための行動」「不健康な行動」「健康向上の促進」「生活環境の改善」に関する要因を明らかにし、行動変容（健康行動をより良い方向へ変化させること）を達成するための方略を構築していきます。

「今、困っている人は誰か？」「今後、困る人は誰か？」「どうすればその人数が減るのか？」「どうすれば困りごとが解消されるのか？」「その効果的な方法は何か？」を常に考え、「真の関連」を疫学的手法により解明していきます。これは、東北大学の理念の1つである「実学尊重；研究成果を社会や人々の日常生活に役立てる」の伝統であり、研究成果を社会に還元できるよう取り組んでいきます。

I am Naoki Nakaya and I appointed as a professor in the field of health behavior epidemiology on April 1, 2021. I was interested in epidemiology and public health, especially mental health, and studied behavioral medicine, epidemiology and public health at Tohoku University Graduate School of Medicine（Department of Disability Science).

I have practiced research using epidemiological methods, and its importance has been utilized in many studies. One of the most memorable is the large-scale cohort study on "Is there a cancer-prone personality (type C personality)?" As a result of the examination, we came to the conclusion that "personality is not related to cancer risk / cancer prognosis". Furthermore, based on the idea that cancer patients often have depressive symptoms due to their clinical conditions, "the causal relationship between the psychological factors shown in previous studies and cancer risk / cancer prognosis is reversed. In interpreting this result, epidemiological perspectives played an important role in understanding the "true association". The reason why the name of this field is health behavior epidemiology is to carry out research that emphasizes this epidemiological point of view.

The Tohoku Medical Megabank Organization, Tohoku University hopes to contribute not only to the reconstruction of medical care in the affected areas but also to the promotion of future medical care in Japan by managing and operating a cohort survey of community residents and collecting high-quality data. In particular, clarify the factors related to "behavior for health promotion," "unhealthy behavior," "promotion of health improvement," and "improvement of living environment," and achieve behavior change (changing healthy behavior for the better). We will build a strategy for this challenge.

"Who is in trouble now?" "Who is in trouble in the future?" "How can the number of people be reduced?" "How can the trouble be solved?" "What is the effective method?" We will always think about "the true relationship" and elucidate the "true relationship" by epidemiological methods. This is one of the principles of Tohoku University, which is the tradition of "respecting practical studies; making use of research results in the daily lives of society and people", and we will work to return the research results to society.
